Chambliss Gives GOP Huge Win In Georgia
Saxby Chambliss’ win in the Georgia Senate race yesterday has killed the Democrats drive to get a fillibuster-proof majority in the chamber. The Republicans are still not out of the woods here though since several GOP Senators, including John McCain, sometimes vote with the Democrats to get the ball going on some legislation.
What we saw yesterday was a very foreboding sign for American politics in my opinion. The turnout was very light. Chambliss gardnered about 60% of the vote. But for the Democrats and their candidate nobody turned out to vote for him. I fear the huge turnout for the general election that propelled Barack Obama and allowed huge Democrat gains in the House and Senate was just a big mess up now.
Those people who got out to vote are not going to take part on a continuing basis in the country’s politics. They are going to sit back on the sidelines while people like Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack’s minions run roughshod over the country. And Barack has veered a pretty good bit right since the electiona and most of the people who voted for him don’t really give a hoot. That’s mainly because they are not paying attention. They did not pay attention before the election either. Barack’s supporters who were “new” to the political scene just wanted to make a “difference”.
We all need to take part in the country’s politics. But we need to do so each and every day. We can’t vote on one day every four years and call that doing our civic duty. We are going to elect people who are not going to do the country good. We’ll see how this all turns out, but I don’t see much good coming out of anything right now. It looks like it will be politics as usual and no one is going to do much about it. Well, that is until it is time to re-elect Obama four years from now!!
